El entrenador alemán se decantó por el concurso del navarro en el estreno liguero frente al Sevilla en San Mamés, le dejó en el banquillo frente al Barça en el nuevo Camp Nou, en el que debió ser pero no fue primer partido del campeonato, y repitió con él de inicio posteriormente de manera consecutiva frente a Celta, Atlético de Madrid y Elche.
